1 Week Old!

Wow, Dax is a week old today (specifically at 4:24pm). Saturday he had his first bath at home, and he didn't really like it that much. He did enjoy getting his hair washed. I have learned quickly what everyone has warned me about.....boys like to pee when they are getting their diapers changed. This happens very frequently, so we are going through clothes like crazy! The girls are still just crazy in love with him. Last night was the best night so far, and I really needed a good nights sleep. He ate until about midnight and then slept till 4am! I was so grateful. Then I nursed him and changed him and he fell asleep again around 5:30am and slept till around 8am. It is funny how your body just adjusts to not sleeping once you have a baby, but last night it caught up with me, and I really needed that sleep! Joshua is working this morning and is taking the afternoon off, and then he is back to regular work hours. It has been so nice having him home to help....the girls love it. He takes them outside and plays with them and fishes with them, and I am grateful because he wears them out! My parents are also helping out a ton with the girls. Farrah and Adra just love spending so much time with Grandma and Grandpa.

Perfection!

Dax is now 5 days old, but I feel like he has been part of the family forever. Joshua and I took him to the doctor yesterday, and the doctor said that Dax was perfectly healthy and didn't need to see him for a month (which I like). He weighed in at 6lbs 10ounces (2 ounces heavier then his discharge weight!). He is not the best night time sleeper. I am up all night with him, but he takes good 2-4 hour naps during the day. At night he wants to nurse pretty much every hour and wants me to hold him while he sleeps....as soon as I put him in the craddle he wakes up. During the day he will sleep in the basinet which is good. I hope get over this hurdle quickly! I was able to take a good 3 hour nap today, with the help of Joshua and my parents distracting the girls....it was really nice and really needed. The girls just love their new brother, in fact when Joshua and I were leaving to take him to the doctor Farrah started crying saying, "I will miss him so much!" What a sweetie. Adra loves to kiss all over his face, and we have to watch her very closely around him. With two toddlers running around Dax is always either in someones arms or in a basinet. I took him outside today, we set up the umbrella and it was so nice to be outside watching the girls play. Dax loved it, because he didn't have to be a wrapped up in blankets!

DAX!

Well what a surprise.....little Dax Winfield Childress is home with us. I was scheduled to be induced on the 30th, but to my surprise Monday morning at 7:15 while laying in bed my water broke. Honestly I never thought I would experience anything like that, since both my girls were induced. I jumped up and ran to the shower, scared out of my mind! Joshua was out running at the time and I didn't get ahold of him until 7:45. We both hurried and got ready, and I packed a little suitcase and we were out the door. We arrived at the hospital at 9am and by 9:30 I was in bed and they started the Pitocin. My doctor was on call all weekend and was still at the hospital and insisted on staying until the baby was born. They upped my Pitocin every 20 minutes to get the labor going quickly. At 1:45 I got my epidural, which of course helped with the pain, but I could feel the contractions and move my legs (which I prefer). Around four the doctor came in to check me and I was at a 6/7 but the baby was still high, so she lowered my epidural significantly. Two contractions later and I was feeling a ton of pressure, so the doctor came back in and I was ready to push....they just had to prep everything, and the doctor had to change. I had two more contractions that made me want to push so bad, but they told me not to! Then in two more contractions Dax was here! I luckily didn't have to be cut and I didn't tear at all.....which has made my recovery amazing. Dax (although not named yet) came out and they placed him on my tummy to clean him off. I got to hold him for a long time and then they weighed him, 6 lbs 13 ounces, and 20inches long. I then got to nurse him, and then they gave him a sponge bath right in the room. It was so nice, with both of the girls they took them away from me soon after they were born to get them cleaned up, but Dax never left my sight. I got to hold him on my way to the recovery room too. He is so precious.....just perfect. Joshua and I really struggled with names, but Joshua wanted to name him before he went home Monday night, so we decided on Dax Winfield Childress. I am so happy and lucky. The labor and delivery was just perfect, no complications at all and we are so blessed with a very healthy beautiful baby boy!

Tuesday morning little Dax was circumcised....he was such a trooper!

Proud sisters. Adra kept saying, "my baby, my baby, my baby Sam". The girls both keep calling him Sam, which is so sweet. They on occasion are calling him Dax now, and I love the way they say it. Farrah is so sweet with him, she kept whispering to him, "It's ok baby, I have you" and "I love you so much sweet baby"...she is going to be a great big sister. Adra is a little rough, she really likes to grab or try to grab his face, but she also gives him sweet kisses too. I have such a beautful family!

How perfect is he?!

We left the hospital around 1pm today. His discharge weight was 6lbs 8ounces.

Lazy or busy

Things have been pretty busy around here. Our friends Shane and Pilar and their two boys came out for a visit from Utah. We had a lot of fun with them, and are going to miss them so much. This week Nona has been staying with us, and we have, well Adra has worn her out. We have loved having her here. Grandma is still in Washington and we miss her dearly, but she is coming home tomorrow night, the girls will be so excited to see her. I am in my 37th week of pregnancy and my doctor has scheduled for me to be induced on June 30th. It is only 11 days away, so I have been trying to get prepared, by washing all his little clothes, but there is still lots to do. We need to get a bassinet for him, and we need to set up his swing and bouncy seat and all that other baby stuff I have packed away.

Also we have pretty much decided that we are going to move into my parents house until the house is built. Right now the condo (our house) is for sale, and it is going to be really hard once the baby comes to keep it clean and ready to show, plus we had to move the kitchen table out of there, so we have no place to eat. Joshua and I are going to slowly move out of there, keeping the big furniture at the condo until it has to be moved. We are going to try and sell the leather sectional with matching armchair, computer desk and love seat....if anyone is interested let us know! Luckily my parents practically have an apartment in their basement, we have two bedrooms (David's and my old room) with a full bathroom, play room and living room, so we are set. We still have to set up the crib for Adra and we are going to get a bed rail for Farrah so she can sleep in the day bed. We hope to be in our new house by late September to early October.

Last Friday Joshua had the great idea to take the girls to a drive-in. We went and saw "Up", which is a cute movie, but I think it is made for older kids and adults more so then toddlers. We had a lot of fun though. We got there an hour early to get a good spot and had a picnic in the back of my dad's truck (he was so nice to let us borrow it). The girls stayed awake the whole time (the movie didn't get over till past 11!). It is something we would love to do again....maybe without the kids next time :-)

Farrah loves to line things up, so she decided it would be fun to put a baby on every stair....it is amazing how many baby dolls we have!

We have played outside a lot...

... which is a good way to get Adra to sleep!

Last Sunday was Joshua's 27th birthday. We didn't plan anything big, because his family was planning on coming up to visit on Tuesday. To our surprise, during dinner, Joshua looks out the window and sees his family drive up....all of them, his parents came and Hope and BC came up with their kids, as well as Jake, and Charlie. We were so excited....the funny thing is that they didn't tell each other they were coming (his parents and BC's family), but they pulled in the driveway at the same time. Suzanne has stayed all week, but everyone else went home. Josh was so happy that they surprised him!
Daddy's yummy devils chocolate cake (luckily I made enough to feed a big crowd!)
The hand bouquet we made for daddy.

Daddy's presents (the Tony Stewart thing is a running joke....Joshua can't stand him!)

We're going under!

Adra loves to nap with Kirby

They are making some progress on our house.....the foundation blocks are up! They are supposed to do the plumbing and electric this week (we haven't gone to check yet)

Can we move in yet?

Here we are at the park with Shane, Pilar and their kids. We had so much fun (even though it started raining). Afterwards we went and got ice cream....in the rain.

Azden had his birthday while they were in town, so we got to celebrate with them. We went to this bouncy castle place, and the kids had so much fun. Adra loved it right from the beginning, but it took Farrah a little longer to feel comfortable there....but before long she was going down the big slides. We will definitely go back there, especially when Joshua can go!

Brave girl (the other side is a huge slide!)

On Wednesday we went to a Reds game with Shane and Pilar....they beat the Braves 4-3

This last picture is just so adorable I had to post it. Adra is wearing Papi's reading glasses.
Don't you just want to eat her up!
